Today’s the day for washing, shopping, packing kit – generally getting everything ready for a good week of outdoor living.
The other half has never been camping so I’m taking extra kit for comfort and thanks to Lurch I might be more comfortable than usual with the LuxuryLite Ultralite Sleeping Cot.
I put it up in the garden to try it out – “Sleep like you’re at home” it says on the literature which, although giving all the right instructions for putting the cot together, is a bit convoluted in presentation. They’ve got a YouTube video to help you set it up for the first time, if you need it. (You probably won’t.)
Small, light, easy to assemble
The whole package is surprisingly small and light (2lb 12oz), smaller than my thermarest when packed away and longer and wider than it when set up. (See full dimensions here.)
It’s not hard to set up. Two bungeed poles slide easily down either side of the thick rip-stop cot base. Then it’s simply a case of attaching the bracing poles to the feet and the feet to the cot.
Male (black)/female (gold) support poles can also be doubled up or even transposed for a “twist-bow” – this gives extra strength in the areas needed on the cot (in my case the butt area!)
It takes less than five minutes to put it together (including taking the pictures, it took around 10 minutes) and once set up you realise how wide it actually is. Suspended above the grass and with a good few inches spare on the length of the cot I can well believe that I’ll be able to sleep like I’m at home.
Will let you know after the Wilderness Gathering.
