In Blighty the name Ray Mears is synonymous with bushcraft; the face of bushcraft on TV. Ray is responsible more than anyone for popularising what we call bushcraft in the UK. With his TV series and books Ray has inspired a generation of people to get out there and experience the natural world first hand.
Those of us who love the outdoors keenly watch Ray for new insights, techniques and the best equipment, so we have known for some years that Ray is a fan of the 5.11 range of clothing having seen him wear them in a number of his programmes.
Here at Lakeland Bushcraft we have also been wearing 5.11 products for years; like Ray, we don’t worry about the ‘TACTICAL’ tag because we know these are well built products with some great features.
Ray Mears isn’t the sort to lend his name to just any product in the expectation of quick return regardless of the quality, Ray only endorses products he uses himself and knows to be worthy – that’s just the kind of man he is.
In the picture Ray wears the 5.11 TACTICAL Shirt in Cotton.
5.11 TACTICAL Range of Clothing and Rucksacks
The 5.11 shirt is built from hard wearing 5.4oz cotton canvas, it features triple stitching and tough melamine buttons for a long life even when worn in the woods. The innovative hidden pockets on the chest are spacious enough even to carry a Gransfors Bruks Mini Hatchet! So there’s ample room for all sorts of items you might want to keep to hand. The sleeves feature a tie up system so you can look smart even if you need to roll up those sleeves.
These shirts are smart enough for casual wear and tough enough for working or playing outdoors!
Other items in the range include the 5.11 TACTICAL Pants (trousers to you and me!) also from tough cotton canvas this time in 8.5 oz weight, a heavy duty nylon belt and a range of rucksacks suitable for a day trip or longer.
We love 5.11 gear so much we’re going to take a more in depth look at the range.
